1987 USA San Dimas Jackson Dinky #1940
SOLD
The Basics:
This is an original '87 Jackson, handmade in California, in a time when each guitar was truly unique. The graphic is incredible on this one. I shot a tremendous amount of pictures trying to capture the deep blues & reds, but could not. To see her in person is a pleasure; every angle or lighting nuance reveals another shade.
Your eyes are not deceiving you and this is not a "refin". This guitar looks like it was stored in a vault for the last 20 years! I was very fortunate to find it through a very discerning buyer and realize the irreplacable nature of such a piece. It never leaves my studio and has seen little play since I purchased it in 2004, due to some major life changes. Now I must sell some equipment, so I offer it here. The original G&G style Jackson case is almost as pristine as the guitar.
Update:
My friend "Newc" from the JCF sent me a note regarding this guitar:
"I'm pretty sure this particular graphic was done by Dan Lawrence. It must have been in the Dan Lawrence book. The book was called "20 Years As D'Painter" and contained photographs that Dan took himself of guitars he painted and carved over the last 20 years - Charvel, Jackson, Lynch's ESPees, that doubleneck Dracula Schecter. The photos were made from Dan's original negatives, and there were about 200 of them."
Thanks for the insight, Newc. I wish I were able to get an accurate representation of the rich colors in this finish. It is the most interesting Jackson graphic I have ever seen, color-wise. It may appear very pink in the pictures, but not so in person.
Configuration & Electronics:
Equipped with the hottest active electronics I have ever heard, this Jackson makes my Marshall JCM 900 sound like my Mesa Triple Rectifier! The tone is gorgeous and reflects the thick ebony board and Mother of Pearl inlays. Note the built-in controls in the cavity, which allow many aspects of the sound to be adjusted. I have not attempted any changes to it, for fear I will lose the incredible sound it currently provides. I am listing the Marshall, so this guitar may need to go to a new owner. The neck is thin, unfinished and fast. The action is phenomenal and the Kahler looks like new. Love that San Dimas Charvel cavity!
The "Nobease" volume knob, sometimes called a "nerf knob", is really cool for extremely accurate pinky volume adjustments. I'm surprised I haven't seen more of these.
